MyDoom overtakes Sobig.F as biggest computer virus outbreak

MyDoom Virus was created to take down SCO’s website with some kind of denial of service attack.  It spreads by exploiting human nature which is hard to create a “patch” for.  Now SCO steps up to find the culprit.  I’m no fan of SCO but I hope they catch them.

Business spent $55,000,000 on virus cleanup and defense in 2003.  Job security for some of us and some source of twisted joy for others.

I wonder what we could have spent the 55 Billion on if we didn’t have to spend it here?

Novarg (MyDoom) Virus

There were quite a few problems with the Novarg virus today. It seems like no matter how hard you try to educate the end users about computer viruses.  People still click on attachments in e-mail.

I don’t know how you stop people from getting “click happy” when they are tricked in to launching attachments in e-mail.  Even when an e-mail comes from Bob down the hall.  If you are not expecting anything from Bob then delete the e-mail and apologize later. It’s just good policy to never open an attachment you are not expecting.

Unfortunately some people will open any e-mail attachment without any thought about it.  I say they are “click happy.” How do you combat this?

Mike Rowe goes to Redmond

This story turns out like it should. Microsoft invites Mike Rowe to Redmond and makes nice.  Good move by Microsoft. Boy swaps MikeRoweSoft for Xbox

Found some great blog software at PMachine - tried to do it in Microsoft FrontPage but the work involved is more than I wanted to undertake.  There was a rumor that Microsoft was adding blogging capability but I think that was based on using Sharepoint services to present the web site. Unfortunately I don’t have those services available with my provider. Pmachine is a simple install and provides everything for a good blog.
